The Climate & Care Initiative is proud to announce that 13 organizations were selected to receive funding through the Climate & Care Initiative Fund, which supports community-driven projects that bridge the care and climate agendas.
With over 1,200 applications received from across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa, the fund demonstrates the growing awareness of how care work and climate action intersect — and the urgent need to support the communities already innovating on the ground.
Each selected organization will implement projects over the next 14 months to address:
- The rising demand for care work caused by climate impacts
- Redistribution of care responsibilities in communities
- Inclusion of gender and care perspectives in climate mitigation
- Sustainable and decent care-focused green jobs
The selected organizations are based in 11 countries, including Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Niger, and more. Their work ranges from supporting women waste pickers in Argentina, to empowering Indigenous defenders in Colombia, to inclusive agricultural training in Uganda. Each organization brings bold, place-based solutions to the challenges of our time.

This fund is part of a broader strategy led by UNRISD, Oxfam Canada, Fundación Avina, Universidad Nacional de San Martín, and SCIS (Wits University), in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Care and financed by IDRC . The initiative works across research, financing, and advocacy to assure a more cohesive understanding of the climate and care intersections towards achieving a just transition.
